Edmund Clerihew Bentley
Skewered his characters gently.
If they wiggled with humor and rhyme
Some could pass their use-by date or time.
Written for a prompt provided by Gayle Walters Rose in dVerse’s “Form For All; the Clerihew” where you can find more information about E. C. Bentley and clerihews and maybe even feel prompted to write one yourself.
I love the first two lines. 🙂

I agree, his skewering was pretty gentle and I love your title! Thank you for joining in with our Clerihew fun, Frank.

Thanks, Shawna. The first two lines are the only ones I liked, but the form required four.

Of course he is worth his own Clerihew.. I guess that we could be more gentle

I wonder how sarcastic E. C. Bentley was in his own clerihews. I have only read a few of them.

Great rhythm in this and I like how you paid tribute to the man who started it all.

Thanks, Bryan. I was going to do this on a politician, but I realized I don’t know much about politics. I don’t know much about E. C. Benthley either.

Ha! Love this! I wrote about him, too, before doing my reading rounds. 😉

I figured he deserves a cleihew. I enjoyed your clerihew on him. Clerihews are a bit too short although limericks aren’t much longer.

Ah, what a great idea to honour Mr Clerihew past his own sell by date!
