Looking As If You Are Really There

Metaphors state what is there:
Wild beauty or a scar.
We may only get to know
What we think we are.

You’ll hide behind a metaphor.
I’ll tease you as we race.
We hide. We seek. Let’s finally find
Some answer we can face.

  1. Wonderful quadrille. I especially like these two lines:
“We may only get to know
    What we think we are”

I find this so true as I’m working on writing my memoir and find myself stuck in a pattern of who I think I am, but then I break through to the me I didn’t know before.

  2. Wisdom mixed liberally with whimsey–yes, I was once an actor, I found paths to many of the me(s), frolicking through the maze of maybes, the paths of possibilities. Nice job with this; smile.

  3. I agree with De and Bjorn, Frank, about the idea of metaphors as masks; the way you have broken the metaphor: ‘I’ll tease you as we race. /We hide. We seek…’; and the ambiguity of that final word’face’ that leaves room for interpretation. serious and playful at the same time.

  4. Love your photo, Frank. Read all the comments and much has been said. It was interesting that you reflected on the duplicity of reality. Are we a metaphor in our own lives? The journey to Self is a butterfly dream.

  5. The second line brought to mind the conflict between wild nature and a manicured garden. For me it serves as a metaphor for the hide and seek relationships we all have.
