The pattern curled as it grew
Much like a fractal form.
We suffered and with joy came through
Sunshine or a storm
In every wave we rode upon,
We chose. We gave and took.
The pattern curled us along
And sometimes we could look.

Love how you connect the journey to those patterns, like a path that we all have to follow.

I think its very important to choose regardless of the waves and storms of life. Thanks for joining us Frank ~

Love the nod to the fibonacci….brilliant 🙂

Thanks! I wasn’t sure Fibonacci applied but then I remembered the picture of a helical pattern that seemed to be “curling” that was supposedly based on the ratio of consecutive integers in the Fibonacci sequence.

Yes, it totally fits precisely because the way it looks goes perfectly with the word ‘curl’—love it 🙂

After suffering coming through with joy. Isn’t that the secret? If there is one. Not easy though!

I agree that we should ultimately come through with joy. Thanks!

I’m so in love with fractals! Nice to be shown these examples.

I am fascinated by fractals also although I don’t know the underlying math. That one could have similarity of pattern at different levels is intriguing.

I love the sentiment in this and the last two lines especially ‘The pattern curled us along
and sometimes we could look’, where you uncurl yourselves as well to see.

Thank you! Sometimes being able to look enhances the fun of the pattern.

To me, this reads like a very modern retelling of “The Wheel of Time” series by Robert Jordan. It is one of my favourite series ever, so I enjoyed the poem a lot!

I haven’t read anything by Robert Jordan. I will see what I can find. Thanks for the reference!

Pardon me if I am boring, the synergy of your poem and the entire book series is astounding to me. There is a lot of books in the series, and Jordan died before he could finish it, hence his son wrote the very last book.
What is so special is that your poem feels fitting for both the start of the series and the end.

Your comments aren’t boring. If someone likes something enough to reference it, there is something there worth looking at. I am not at home at the moment, but I do plan to look up Jordan’s work. I will post something to your blog or posts with what I come up with when I do. It does sound interesting.
I see human nature evolving in a spiral rather than in random cycles which is where the Fibonacci and non-random fractal ideas come from. Much of this I get from Elliott Wave Theory and Robert Prechter’s books. However, I don’t understand the math underlying fractals, but I think it is something I should be able to understand if I put my mind to it.

I liked the fractal metaphor. Your image of the trees was also striking.

The tree seems to represent a fractal although similarities aren’t exact at each level. Thanks!

Ah, a fractal as a life, as an unfolding. Great math into art into life.

I really like the different threads you interweave here–the mathematics of nature, the mathematics of life. We both chose our paths and are carried along by waves.

Clever to make it rhyme too. I shall have a go. Makes it more of a challenge 🙂

Thank you! Rhyming does add an additional challenge. Sometimes I rhyme every other line and not all lines.
