Fenced In or Out

My monsters have me cornered.
There’s nothing I can do,
But they’re so jumbly juicy
My teeth would gnaw them, too.

I’d like one buttered up to bite
While thinking thoughts real deep
So people think the stuff I write
Need not put them to sleep.

Oh, sure, I do get sleepy,
But they are getting near.
Monsters, monsters everywhere!
I’m cornered. They are here.

  8. A bit 0f Dr. Seuss in this, like Frank through the looking glass–whimsical, with tiny teeth to remind us that monster do reside with us, all kinds, day & night.

    1. If I could draw, I’d have some of those monsters doing yoga. I don’t think that has been done yet, although my monster research is not up-to-date. I liked the books by Roald Dahl I remember getting for my children.

      2. I usually read all the poems people post on these prompts. Sometimes I don’t understand them, but sometimes rereading what I wrote, I don’t understand them either. That is what might happen to this monster poem. I can see myself scratching my head a year from now wondering whatever got into my mind to write it. I’m glad you liked the audio.

  18. Maybe, it’s the headspace, that I’m in, Frank, but would love to change, some of my monsters, into toasted slices of pumpernickel, and chew them up.

  24. Jumbly, juicy – delicious word play! Buttering up a few morsels of monsters brings to mind the Shaw quote about skeletons. We must put them to work one way or t’other 🙂 Jilly

    1. Thanks! Yes, I remember your post about Tram’s Kitchen. I’ve walked miles around Pittsburgh, but nearer the universities. That made me interested where that kitchen was. On one walk, I did get close to where Tram’s was.

    1. I was aiming for a Dr. Seuss approach. I am glad you liked the audio. I’ve enjoyed your songs as well. You seem to have mastered the recording technique.

    1. I didn’t use either, but I suppose there are YouTube videos that would be helpful. I was originally interested in making audio books. The poems are a faster project.

      I bought an Audio-Technica microphone (ATR2100) which has USB connection to a computer. I also purchased a “pop shield”. Total cost was about $100. I downloaded the free Audacity software. This generates an ogg file which does not require mp3 licensing. SoundCloud accepts that format. This improves the sound quality better than what it would be by just speaking into the computer’s microphone. After the track is made in Audacity I use the “Normalize” effect using the defaults. This improves the sound. If the playback is what I like then I post it to SoundCloud. I currently use the free SoundCloud account since I don’t have many tracks at the moment. That is pretty much all there is to it.
