Inside the puddle there’s a sky.
The clouds up high
Are now below
But muddied so.
I walk and bring along my mind.
We love to find
What’s likely true
And joyful, too.
A fantasy made from the light
Still isn’t night.
It’s truly day
Revealed this way.
Photo: “The Interior of the Puddle” by the author linked to K’lee and Dale‘s Cosmic Photo Challenge with the prompt “Interiors”.
I am linking this also to the imaginary garden with real toads’ Tuesday Platform.
Walking through the sky in the puddles, sounds like a cooling treat.

It can be cool on a hot day and the next time I do that I’m going to remember to think that I’m “walking through the sky”. Thanks, Walter!

Nice. I look forward to seeing what twists you give the prompts and I wasn’t disappointed

I’m glad you weren’t disappointed, Dale! Thanks to both you and K’lee for the prompts. I’ll link to his page when I see it appear.

The discovery of what’s likely true, but muddied, somehow – just a bit deeper than the puddle, I dare say!

The puddle’s truth could be deeper than the reflection of its surface. I was thinking the reflections of a puddle could be an alternate metaphor to the shadows on the wall of Plato’s cave. Thanks, Jill!

I suppose as writers we can barely go for a walk without composing a story. 🙂

Thank you! It a new form for me called a “minute” poem because it has exactly 60 syllables, one for each second of a minute, or so I assume.

This is very nice, Frank. It actually really made me think about what I would see in a puddle.

On a clear day and bigger puddle, you can see even more of the sky than this puddle shows. Thanks, Robbie!

Thanks, Charley! Sometimes it makes more sense in memory, but I do remember liking that reflective water on the side of the road.

Thank you, Jeren! I am practicing a new form I learned a week ago called the “minute” form, 60 syllables arranged in three stanzas of 20 syllables with rhyme pattern aabb ccdd eeff and using iambic meter.

There’s a cheery camaraderie between singer and song here, both finding something full and quenching in a puddle–not the surface, which is the first encounter, but the depth. And it’s a “fantasy made from the light”: defined by what we see, instead of the “night” we can’t. Nice little deep refresher.

The reflection is a fantasy, but there is truth in what it reflects. It is meant to be uplifting. I am glad you liked it, Brendan!

I loved these inversion of perspective. Usually puddles are ignored in favour of lakes or seas. Seing the sky in a puddle changes everything.

A calm lake is impressive with a reflection of mountains. When I was walking there, I stopped for some reason, and then saw the puddle which surprised me in its simplicity. It is impressive in its way as well. I’m glad you liked it, Danik!
