Inside the puddle there’s a sky.
The clouds up high
Are now below
But muddied so.
I walk and bring along my mind.
We love to find
What’s likely true
And joyful, too.
A fantasy made from the light
Still isn’t night.
It’s truly day
Revealed this way.

The puddle’s truth could be deeper than the reflection of its surface. I was thinking the reflections of a puddle could be an alternate metaphor to the shadows on the wall of Plato’s cave. Thanks, Jill!

Thank you, Jeren! I am practicing a new form I learned a week ago called the “minute” form, 60 syllables arranged in three stanzas of 20 syllables with rhyme pattern aabb ccdd eeff and using iambic meter.

There’s a cheery camaraderie between singer and song here, both finding something full and quenching in a puddle–not the surface, which is the first encounter, but the depth. And it’s a “fantasy made from the light”: defined by what we see, instead of the “night” we can’t. Nice little deep refresher.

I loved these inversion of perspective. Usually puddles are ignored in favour of lakes or seas. Seing the sky in a puddle changes everything.

A calm lake is impressive with a reflection of mountains. When I was walking there, I stopped for some reason, and then saw the puddle which surprised me in its simplicity. It is impressive in its way as well. I’m glad you liked it, Danik!
