  3. Well at least our thoughts are infinite like the universe.. And I am glad we no longer think we are at the centre of it all..

    1. We will always be the centers of our perspectives on the universe. If the universe were infinite everywhere would be the center of it. I suspect it is finite, however. That makes me wonder where the center actually is? Thank you!

      1. But the expansion and the dark matter(still disputed) doesn’t seem to view it as finite.. And if the space is ever expanding than there is a chance that It will never end..

        1. I don’t think there is any dark matter. It is assumed to be there because the galaxies and clusters of galaxies accelerate too rapidly without it. Either there is dark matter or the current gravitation theory is false and needs to be modified. There are people (in particular John Moffat, “Reinventing Gravity”) who have a modified gravity theory that doesn’t need dark mater (nor black holes). Some of this may be testable with the Event Horizon Telescope. There’s a lot that is unknown, but assumed to be true. It is not easy to separate speculation from empirical data. There is a thought experiment called Olber’s Paradox that in an infinite universe we should not see a dark night sky.

          1. I think the dark matter existence is now becoming less controversial after the Andromeda and Milky way dwarf galaxy study.. I have not read John Moffat explanation.. Hmm.. Maybe this weekend..

  5. Something to ponder as I sit here in a small room, feeling not small at all. But standing on the shoreline at night is a different matter. In the bigger picture, it’s probably a good thing for the universe that we are the size we are. The phrase “too big for our britches,” comes to mind.
