Even seagulls understand,
Salute the brightening Sun.
They pause with eyes that watch it rise,
Give praise, for day’s begun.
Photo: “Sun Salutation” by the author. I am linking this to K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge with theme “gratitude” and since gratitude seems to make forgiveness easier I am also linking it to Debbie Roth’s Forgiving Fridays.
I like the photo and the poem. The rhyme is nice, and I like the first line especially.

Thank you! Those seagulls surprised me when I first saw them on the beach watching the sunrise as I was doing.

You are lucky to live near that water! I have a little creek that I live by.
I love photographing my creek in different seasons.
Gratitude is a good theme. 🙂
(I hope to be visiting the Ranch sometime today – but I have a little visitor for a good part of the afternoon.)

We don’t live near the ocean, but we were tourists when I took that picture. However, we do have Lake Michigan fifteen miles away which is almost as good. Thank you, Jules!

I visited Port Washington (we stayed more or less right on the lake!) and got to visit Lake Michigan earlier this year. I have some pieces of pottery, beach glass and even a photo with seagulls too!

This is beautiful Frank and I love how you use seagulls as it’s kind of ironic. In comparison to the suns light and most birds, seagulls are annoying scavengers. But this creates such a wonderful contrasting poetic image as even they are in a sense enthralled by the light of the sun and see its beauty.

Seagulls can be annoying or humorous watching them interact with people on the beach, but in the early morning (and at other times) they are often beautiful. Thank you, Amanda!

Lovely, words and image, both.
I like the way the foreground almost mirrors the cloud formations

I didn’t notice that about the foreground seaweed, but I think it does as well, now that you mention it. Thanks, Dale!

Hey Frank, this is lovely, but I’m not sure about the final line. Should it be ‘days’, or should the ‘begun’ be ‘beginning’?

The phrase “for day’s begun” was intended to mean “for the day has begun”. It seems like this would work in my Indiana rural way of speaking, but I can see how this might cause confusion. Thanks for bringing up the possible misunderstanding. I may need to modify it.

Oh, right. In that case, would a comma before the ‘for’ work?

That might work. I’ve added the comma. I like the pause the comma creates around the phrase “give praise”. Thanks, Ronnie!
