Beyond the Objective Surface

Overlooking Lake Michigan

What’s real does not bounce particles
Nor swim with random waves.
Its surface swings an open door,
Predictably behaves.

The real’s beyond the object.
Love lifts it, lets us see,
Sustaining every now we know
While veiled majestically.

  1. I think this is one of my favourites of your poems Frank -the rhythm and rhyme a marvellous match for the philosophical undertow

  2. The facade of science versus the intangibility of love; amazing.
The form looks like something I could try.
ABAB/ CDCD with syllable counts of 8/6/8/6 Yes?

  3. This flows so smoothly and the truth that underlies it is “real.” We are too easily victims of self deceit. I saw in comments that you are a math-person and I suspect that your great ability with form lies in that.
