Santa’s crunching on the snow.
Children want to see
Reindeer, sleigh and Santa, so
He crunches merrily.
Some complain that he’s not real.
Some pick on his weight.
Some complain no matter what,
Ending every praise with “but”,
So long as he’s not late.
Text: Linked to this week’s dVerse Quadrille where De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) is hosting and the 44-word quadrille must contain some form of the word “crunch”.

Heehee. Love this, Frank. You are Rhyme Master, as always. Love your photo, too.

I found myself wanting to sing this–what a great song it would make for little ones. Do it!!

I did have children in mind when writing it. I’m glad you thought it would make a nice song. Thank you, Victoria!

Charming! You do this form so well, Frank. Is that picture current? Dost thou have snow already? I hear-tell it’s heading your way.

It is very warm here today, but we did have some frost earlier. That photo was of an early snow last year. The first warm snows are often very beautiful with the lights on them. Thanks, Jilly!

Even at such tender ages, children indulge in critical thinking. Poor Santa-unable to please everyone- but still welcomed, all the same.😊

Yes, he’s welcome whether real or not. Thank you, Vivian!

The negativity rag. You will have complainers with you always. (That’s not biblical… just pure fact) Nice poem, Frank!

That Santa’s usually a softy. I have heard of coal in stockings though. I did see a sign once in a gift shop: “Be naughty. Save Santa the trip.” Thanks, Dan!

One has to be wary of those not willing to take in a little bit of effort! Very true Frank

I read your poem to the rhythm of ‘Jingle Bells’, Frank, and it fits if you leave out the line ‘Ending every phrsse with “but”‘! Christmassy fun!

those ‘butters’ spoil the magic but your poem held it – is that recent crunch in your snow?

That snow was from last year, but we may get some later this month. Thank you, Laura!

I like this! Even though my kids are grown, everyone gets a stocking fill, I sleep with one ear open, listening for his footsteps still. This reality I know quite well, but as concrete as it be, childhood must be carried on, so others are free to dream.

There are always children who will listen for that crunching. My children are all grown as well. Thank you, Mary!

Folks should leave Santa alone – he has made so many happy, he deserves some respect. 🙂

I so agree with you, Imelda. Santa has just as much to do with Christmas as the Saviour does (who was born on Sukkot or whenever, but definitely not Christmas).
Nice quadrille, Frank. It’s put a smile on my face, and certainly on many others’ as well!
