Terns wonder what I’m looking at
As I return their stare.
They do not move. They’re in some groove.
I love their goofy hair.
Venus shines but in the Sun.
Mars and Jupiter
Play with the Moon, that crescent Lune,
While wakened seagulls stir.
Waves keep up their wavy stuff.
They lick sand smooth near me.
The patient Sun begins its run
With birds and Moon and sea.

Ha.. the waves keep up their wavy stuff… and the goofy hair… love the mix of humor into serenity of moon and planets.

I’m nodding off to the sound of the waves, if it wasn’t for those pesky Terns!

They are more unusual than seagulls and from my limited experience just as brave. Thanks, Peter!

Loved the contrast between the poem and the picture. The terns look Royal indeed, dignified and just a we bit conceited! 😀

I was able to get within a few feet of them to take that photo with my camera. I am glad you liked this, Danik!

Thanks, Victoria! It is the first time I’ve ever seen such birds. I had to go to the library to find out what they were. They let me get rather close to them.

Great description. One of the few things I enjoy about travel to Florida is watching the Terns on the beach.

They are beautiful. It was the first time I really noticed them. I probably thought they were seagulls before. Thanks, Dan!

Nice mix of whimsey & nostalgia. I don’t think we have terns on the west coast, or I’ve just not noticed them. Your final stanza is killer.

Let’s see… everyone has had a chance to play with your “tern of phrase.” Now that I’ve got that out of our system… the tone of the poem is… unloaded, unwinding, unwound. It fit perfectly. Your photos are always wonderful.

Thank you, Charley! I didn’t even know there was such as thing as a “tern” until recently. Then I saw their goofy hair. Definitely not a seagull or pigeon.
