Some use their souls to say there is no soul. Some use their freedom claiming we’re machines denying what we know of mystery. It’s hard to tell which hell builds bigger walls to bar eternity.
There’s time to walk if we can’t run. There’s time for trees and standing still. Eternity comes passing through, patiently as sparrows do, singing pleasantly.
CHILLY EQUINOX
COMING COLD OR COMING SPRING
SPARROWS BRING NEW SOUND
Text: Linked to dVerse Open Link Night where Bjorn is hosting. I am late for dVerse Poetics where Paul was hosting, but I am using Paul’s theme of “soul”.
Photos: “Lake Michigan at Evanston”, above, and “Lake Michigan from a Park”, below.
Love the thought of what we can do, when we sometimes just have to lean back and listen to birdsong.

Spring is all around me…the sun shines, my new garden full of rocks, will they bloom this year? I have made the transition to zero-scape.

Lovely and true. I miss our sparrows. I haven’t seen any in five years. I understand their numbers are reduced worldwide. Lovely poem.

I didn’t know they were reduced but I can see how different development practices might do that. Thank you, Gay!

I love the mention of how we bar eternity and the reminder of how it could be if we were patient like sparrows. Beautiful words.

Patience usually works but it is sometimes hard to get there. Hopefully the example of sparrows helps. Thank you, Astrid!

“It’s hard to tell which hell builds bigger walls to bar eternity.” It is hard to tell which is worse. The spiritual and political climate of this day is polarizing people to embrace absolutes, without question of value. You have a great truth, don’t know what could change it, 😦

I don’t either. Patience seems like a weak shield, but may be stronger than I realize. Thank you, Walter!

What a gorgeous haibun, Frank. Feels Biblical in the best of ways. We always doubt the soul’s existence but it is beyond us to really understand I think without faith. It is for me. And it is wasted energy to do so. Lovely, Frank.

Thank you, Jane! I am not sure what I was trying to write with the haibun, perhaps just finding something to fit Paul’s theme.

Contrary to belief, eternity may not be permanent. Very true Frank. It is how one makes it so!
