But give me just a tree or two.

There’s something very special about water in a city. Do all great cities have water running through them, or by them? And trees in the city – so important. The lungs of the city, and such a great refreshment to the eye and the mind.

Trees and a river. That’s the thing. My old hometown — Mpls, MN — has… or perhaps had… it all. Been too long for me to know. Chicago has it, too. Beautiful photo and poem, Frank.

Seasons are determined by culture in Minnesota. There are those who delineate between Mosquitoes and Snow. Then there are those who utilize the Winter – Road Construction method. Either way, avoid winter. But yes, there are beautiful places in Minneapolis … and even in St. Paul.

You are right about this … trees are a necessity. Amazing how builders cut down all the trees and plant new ones instead of building around the existing ones.

Yes, as I child, I remember climbing to the top of trees and daydreaming. A child needs to leave the ground sometime.

I so agree! One of the things we love about our place right in the center of Boston, is that we have a good bit of green space around us….condominium grounds with gardens and trees and the “Thoreau Pathway” behind us that winds from busy Storrow Drive, through trees, to the small street where there’s the only remaining building from the old West End, St. Joseph’s Church. The West End was razed in the mid-50s and high rises built…we live in one….but much green space was figured in. 🙂 Trees and lawns….help me breathe! 🙂
