The urban may be wonderful
With scarcely any tree,
But give me just a tree or two.
There’s something that a tree can do
That sets my daydreams free.

Beautiful form and, oh that photo of my favorite big city! Thanks for joining in, Frank.

A tree or shrub or flower pot to me, makes a world of difference ~ Love that gift of nature ~

Those trees and shrubs are very important even if we ignore them most of the time. Thank you, Grace!

I prefer the forest preserve to the urban area, but there are beautiful urban environments. Thank you, Kim!

There’s something very special about water in a city. Do all great cities have water running through them, or by them? And trees in the city – so important. The lungs of the city, and such a great refreshment to the eye and the mind.

+1 Frank. Hope they don’t all end up, as Joni says ‘in a tree museum, / And they charged all the people / A dollar and a half to see ’em’

I can imagine that possibility could occur. Thank you, Peter!

It is that one tree that makes the picture too more beautiful.

Without that tree I wouldn’t have found the picture interesting. It makes the buildings and water seem beautiful all by itself. Thank you, Pragalbha!

Trees and a river. That’s the thing. My old hometown — Mpls, MN — has… or perhaps had… it all. Been too long for me to know. Chicago has it, too. Beautiful photo and poem, Frank.

Thank you, Charley! You now have an ocean near-by. I haven’t been to Minneapolis, but I imagine it is beautiful.

Seasons are determined by culture in Minnesota. There are those who delineate between Mosquitoes and Snow. Then there are those who utilize the Winter – Road Construction method. Either way, avoid winter. But yes, there are beautiful places in Minneapolis … and even in St. Paul.

You are right about this … trees are a necessity. Amazing how builders cut down all the trees and plant new ones instead of building around the existing ones.

They should leave the older ones. All of the trees in the picture are very young. Thank you, Dwight!

Great poem Frank,
I love that combination urban city with nature, because without nature we would be lost !

Generally, there aren’t enough trees in urban areas I’ve visited. Thank you, Dan!

Yes, as I child, I remember climbing to the top of trees and daydreaming. A child needs to leave the ground sometime.

Interesting idea about the need to leave the ground. I hadn’t thought of it like that. Another good reason for trees. Thank you, Annell!

If I aimed the camera toward the west there would have been one of Trump’s towers there blocking the view. The river was more beautiful facing east. Thank you, Fred!

I so agree! One of the things we love about our place right in the center of Boston, is that we have a good bit of green space around us….condominium grounds with gardens and trees and the “Thoreau Pathway” behind us that winds from busy Storrow Drive, through trees, to the small street where there’s the only remaining building from the old West End, St. Joseph’s Church. The West End was razed in the mid-50s and high rises built…we live in one….but much green space was figured in. 🙂 Trees and lawns….help me breathe! 🙂
