Compassion proves we can get outside ourselves, boxed in as we are conceptually as individuals, deluded in our isolation, but those who have it don’t need proof much as they don’t need proof of anything that shows our humanity. They know all of this and more is real.

Is compassion only a feeling or is it an action? That’s what I’d like to know.

Seems to me that hand-wringing is easy. Is compassion meant to be easy?

It might be all of that and more. Thank you, Jane and Jo!

I think you’re right—it should be. Too often we stop at the ‘thoughts and prayers’ part.

A nice haibun Frank. I like your thought that part of having compassion is not having to be convinced of another’s humanity.

You raised good points in your poem, Robbie. It is hard to say what one should do in many circumstances.

Yogi Bhajan gave us this sutra, “Recognize the other is you.” Your post reminds me of this eternal truth. Thank you for sharing.
