Of blessed Spring
White Winter sings.
From Summer’s heat
Fall retreats.
Fall retreats

White Winter sings
Of blessed Spring.
That’s so the landscape that we see
May praise and play repeatedly.
Text: Linked to dVerse Meeting the Bar. I am hosting today and the theme is “reverse poems”. These are poems where at least part of the poem reverses itself line-by-line. It is like a refrain in a song except the refrain is sung backwards. The pub opens at 3:00 PM EST.
Photos: “Pink and Green with Water”, above, and “Autumn Blooms”, below.
The reverse-poem form works really well here.

I agree with Jane, it reads like a song, or a children’s rhyme.

Thank you, Grace! And thank you for the idea of reverse poems. I didn’t know about them before you mentioned them to me earlier last week.

I did two previous ones this past week. I find it a strange form, but one with a lot of potential. Thank you, Mary!

Excellent illustration of the prompt, Frank. We have worked on this form here at the Pub in the past. Thanks for resurrecting it. I am always amazed at how well the reversed lines work, changing the thrust, volition &POV.

They do force a different perspective. I found the exercise interesting. I may try some of these later. Thank you, Glenn!

Reverse poems hold a great deal of charm, don’t they. They seem similar to alliteration in their impact. I like how they can turn the meaning around, or even at times expand on it.

They have the potential of presenting something unexpected although it could be just more of the same. Thank you, Paul!
