Secret Ingredient

Snow Blessed Sunrise

Listening to MacArthur Park
As winter turns my dreams around
I see forgiveness search the dark
To find bright angels carry sound.

Linked to dVerse Poetics where Amaya is hosting with the theme “secret ingredient” and to Debbie Roth’s Forgiving Fridays who keeps reminding me of what is important.

Also many thanks to KATiE MiA Frederick!il who posted a while back a YouTube link to Donna Summer singing Jimmy Webb’s MacArthur Park which brought back memories.

  1. Truth and hope, laced with brevity, as you score again. I remember the Richard Harris version from the 60’s; though he starred in the film CAMELOT, he wasn’t much of a singer.

  2. I just checked out the song Frank. The lyrics are priceless. I love the chorus: “MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it
’cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again, oh, no” (of course it means more with the rest of the song).

    1. I think I only understand parts of that song, but the words keep going through my mind and soothe it. I am glad you liked that song. It is one of my favorites from long ago that I had forgotten over time. Thank you, Janice!

  4. I’ve always loved that song, especially by Richard Harris. I used to sing along to it when I was a child and it reminds me of my parents who played it continuously! I like the way the poem hinges on winter turning dreams around with forgiveness and light shining through the darkness. The angels of Christmas certainly brighten up this time of year.

  5. Beautiful poem, Frank. I like how it was inspired by MacArthur Park. (I just played the Waylon Jennings version in your link above for my husband.) I like the winter turned around, and “bright angels carry sound.”

  6. This is beautiful on so many levels, Frank. To my experience, angels sing a song of love – and forgiveness can help us to hear that. What an incredible gift to walk with the Beloved and open to the dreams of our heart. I also happen to do a form of meditation that connects to the sound current, or the audible energy of God. ❤ Your poem touched me into that, thank you! And, I’m so glad that my Forgiving Fridays prompt helps you remember what’s important. Blessings to you. Have a great weekend, Frank. ~Debbie
