Freckly

Forest Preserve
A freckly face does not disgrace
The simple beauty of her eyes,
Two stars who watch the midnight skies,
Two candles blinking warm replies,
Two windows opening a door
No one noticed there before.
Observe. Let beauty emphasize
How tiny freckles frame her eyes.

  1. This is a charming quadrille, Frank! Romeo compared Juliet’s eyes to stars: “Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, having some business, do entreat her eyes to twinkle in their spheres till they return” (2.2.16-19) – one of my favourite quotes from one of my favourite plays. I love the lines:
    ‘… Let beauty emphasize
How tiny freckles frame her eyes.’

  2. A sweet appreciation of freckles which enhance the main attraction…her beautiful eyes! I hope you read this aloud to her 🙂

  3. I especially like this line…”Two windows opening a door /No one noticed there before”. Wow. I also like the connection you made between her freckles and eyes, together bringing out all her natural beauty.

  4. Another perfect hit Frank. The rhyming is just so nicely paced, the sentiment generous in its appreciation, and attentive in its execution, showing devotion, thought, and that FRANK HUBENY CHARM! Always nice Frank. Your poem have a way of sneaking up on me unexpectedly from the side so skillfully, but never devoid of charm.
