The James K. Polk birthplace near Charlotte, North Carolina, is only a few miles from where we live. Although the original buildings are no longer there materials from other homes from the early 1800s were used to make these reconstructions.
The first photo shows an overview of the site.
The others feature doors and details in the main house on the left.

These are lovely photos, Frank. I appreciate the close-up of the lock bar. I’m always amazed at the narrow stairs, but they weren’t moving around the kind of stuff we have today.

Those stairs were very narrow and the landing was not even level. The tour didn’t take us upstairs, but I hear it was much like an attic.
Thank you, Dan!

There’s a similar house at Old Sturbridge Village, and there are two beds in the attic.

So nice how they were able to recreate this historic place. I used to live in the Southeastern USA and enjoyed exploring the many historic places. History extends so far back there.
