Blur – Six Sentence Story

While walking through the neighborhood overcast by a blur of rainclouds Charles passed a young girl urging her two brothers half her size to keep up with her.

One said, “It’s gonna rain,” but she answered, “No.” Then the other said, “It’s gonna rain,” and she repeated, “No.”

Charles also thought it was going to rain. He hadn’t brought an umbrella, but after hearing the girl’s words he slowed the pace of his walking convinced in spite of the clouds that it wouldn’t rain.

Whether to fulfill a child’s prophecy or to give Charles something to think about it in fact did not rain, at least not until both he and those three children reached the shelter of their homes.

    1. Thank you, Dora! This event more or less happened to me this past week which is why I wrote about it. I was Charles. I slowed down no longer worried about the rain and now I wonder about it.

  10. This reminded me of a time when I took my four grandchildren, all under the age of four to a park. There was a terrific lightning storm. We tried to weather it out under the slide for shelter. They were screaming their heads off and it was a scary situation. Luckily someone from a nearby house had noticed our predicament and ran over to offer us shelter. The kindness of strangers.

  12. When I lived in England it rained frequently, and you carried an umbrella often or wore a waterproof jacket. Now I live in hotter climes where it rains seldom, and when it does I don’t mind getting wet. In both cases, it’s always good to get back home and dried out.

    But, then again, I’m a fan of ‘the weather’. I’d rather watch the satellite video loops than listen to a weather person tell when it will or will not rain. lol
    But, even more fun is watching the sky for weather forecasting. Clouds (here in coastal New England) can be very accurate and reliable sources.

      1. ah! that’s where it gets interesting (the not-dark)…. probably easiest to suggest you google: mackerel sky ‘mare’s tails’ for cloud types that presage rain (at least here on the coast… be interesting if non-ocean based clouds portend differently)
