Barry painted light-hearted, popular abstract art. The more light-hearted his compositions were the more popular they became and the more popular they became the more computer scientists thought they could simulate them to prove that machines were just as light-hearted as people.
Although their computer generated art looked like Barry’s, the collecting public were able to pick out an authentic Barry original with little difficulty. It had that je ne sais quoi that only Barry could bring to the canvas.
In a quote published by the gallery representing him, Barry acknowledged the predicament his imitators were in saying, “Should computers ever talk to their programmers, and programmers opened their ears to listen, they would tell them that no one in his right mind would waste time putting anything on a canvas.”
Waste of time or not Barry’s spirit didn’t mind filling canvas after canvas each of which put his soul in such a good mood that his body bubbled over with love and laughter.

Denise offers the prompt word “abstract” to be used in this week’s Six Sentence Stories.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Very true Frank , very true 💜💜

How do you fit so much into just 6 sentences?!

I don’t know. I keep writing drafts over and over not sure where they are going. The original was little like what it turned out to be. Thank you, Rebecca!

Well said, Frank.
I guess we will find out who will be standing at the end.

Computers are very useful. We humans will make sure computers stand as long as we do. Thank you, Nick!

It is my belief, Frank, that generally as species we have historically exhibited limited capacity to understand the implications of something that has never been seen before.
Furthermore, big AI companies are not different in their strategy from what was happening years ago.
At the Sicago International Exhibition in 1933 the moto was: “Science Discovers – Industry Applies – Man Follows”.

Imo, there is no replicating the human component in the arts. How can there be? Barry’s “je ne sais quoi” is not an algorithm. It stems from emotion and energy.
Engaging Six, Frank.

Very good point about “je ne sais quoi”. Whatever it is, it is not an algorithm. Thank you, Denise!

Excellent brother. Great art is amazing. Cannot be replicated by AI for sure.

We can never be duplicated by AI, not in any real sense of the word. Great story and point, Frank.

Good point about AI. Computers are merely tools we can use, like a shovel, to get things done. Thank you, Mark!

Excellent Six.
(You had me at the 2nd Sentence “…the more computer scientists thought they could simulate them to prove that machines were just as light-hearted as people.”)

Thank you, clark! Going through revision after revision I was not sure where the story was headed.
That second sentence was actually the last sentence I (re)wrote. I am glad you liked it.

What a timely Six as many of us wonder and worry about AI. I agree, there is emotion and soul life in art, for the artist and the audience, which cannot be programmed or machined.

Good point: there is much in art that cannot be programmed or machined. Thank you!

We can program them, we can’t give them life.

Good point! They are only tools that we can program, nothing more. They aren’t alive nor even intelligent.

As a writer, I consider AI technology as a threat.

I don’t think “AI”, that is “artificial intelligence”, actually exists. These tools are best described as automatic logic machines. I see them as similar to automatic dish washers: they are useful when I need to get something done that they can do.
However, human beings with devious intentions who use these logic machines to further their own ends may be threatening.

I guess in time AI devices will control us, not us them. In the meantime, we should applaud the Barrys of this world who continue undaunted.

I am not as worried about these logic machines themselves, but they do make it easier for humans who want to deceive others to do so. We do need to be vigilant.
