It All Goes Back To Genesis 3

Genesis 3:1-5 (KJV)
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

What would be the benefits as promised by the deceiving serpent of eating that fruit?

  1. Your eyes shall be opened. You would become woke.
  2. You shall be as gods. You, not God, would become the standard.
  3. You will know good and evil. You, not God, would become the judge of others.

That is, all hell would break loose.

  1. Your eyes will become open. Woke is the perfect word here! But it’s more than that. We will be inundated with too much information, not all of it true.
You shall be as gods, determining the fate of all the species of life and the planet itself, without enough wisdom to responsibly make the decisions. All those people who look toward the near future and ignore the long-term consequences make these choices based on incomplete information even with our over-abundance of research and observation.
Knowing good AND evil. Before the snake, we only knew good. Notice he didn’t say knowing good FROM evil. We have to have laws and precepts and training to know what is evil. The whole industry of covert operations is built on the belief that everything evil can be used to our advantage for the “good” of our families, communities, peoples, and nations. Murder is ok if you’re killing evil people. Adultery is ok if you don’t get caught, or if you need to subvert someone to get information from evil people. Robbery is ok if what you’re stealing should be in the hands of good people instead of evil people, or you have company and not enough bread. The lines between good and evil are blurred, and look where that’s gotten us.

    1. Good point about all of that false information. Also interesting point about “knowing good FROM evil”. We can’t handle that at all well. Thank you and blessings, Rebecca!

  2. Amen to this reminder that to follow Satan is Death and to stay on Gods word is eternal life. If only folks would read the Bible which by the way has been proven to be true by many archeologic finds. Thank you Frank for keeping the Word alive,
