Whatever Daniel used for pen and paper in the 6th century BC, he knew he had to be ready to write down the words of prophecy. The one he received about the time of the evening oblation was the one he earnestly prayed for. It was the most important one anticipated for centuries and argued over for centuries more after it had finally been fulfilled.
As Daniel began his supplication, his prayer, Gabriel was sent. Before Daniel ended his prayer, Gabriel arrived bringing the skill and understanding Daniel would need to write down the vision.
Daniel took up his pen and wrote.

Denise offers the word “pen” for this week’s six sentence stories.

Beautiful!
Can I ask you something? Do you use the Bible app-YouVersion? If so, when you start a plan and check off each day, why doesn’t it track you? Mine is constantly prompting me to open my Bible even when I’ve done all my study for the day. I do my devotional, followed by study time every single day. The addition of a plan seems to be messing everything up.

I haven’t used YouVersion, so I don’t know how that online Bible software works. I mainly use Blue Letter Bible for online reading, to copy quotes from various versions that I paste onto photos or directly into posts, and for its interlinear feature. I haven’t thought of using any of these online Bibles for devotionals, but they have many features that I am unaware of. That may be something I should start doing or at least become more familiar with. Blessings, Kim, and thank you for the idea!

This Gabriel, dude! What’s his # or IM or anything… there’s many a night, keyboard or quill pen, a face-to-face would be a life-saver!

Most likely Daniel would have used a reed pen and ink on papyrus scrolls when recording his dreams and prophesies.

I think you are right about the reed pen and ink on papyrus scrolls, but I know little about history. Hopefully my tales don’t go too far astray of what happened except for entertainment value. Blessings, Violet!

Such an important skill to be able to write things down. I think it would be papyrus and ink, perhaps?

We take writing for granted today. Back then I imagine it was an unusual but important skill. I think the real Daniel used papyrus and ink, as you mentioned, but I don’t know. Blessings, Chris!

My ultimate goal is to draw people to think about Daniel without leading anyone astray by the tale itself. Blessings, Jim!

One should always have a pen at the ready. Daniel I suspect has a few in reserve, given his position of importance.

He was important and he had the skill and tools to write down what he needed to. Thank you and blessings, Denise!

How little we’d know if our forefathers hadn’t left us their written thoughts.

Prophet Daniel (often written Daniyal or Daniel) is a well-known figure in the Abrahamic traditions — Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Here’s a clear summary depending on what you want to know:

Muslim historians say he lived during the time of Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonian exile.
Some narrations mention that Umar ibn al-Khattab ordered Daniyal’s body to be buried properly after it was discovered in Tustar.
