Just after the invisible voice closed the door to Room 215 of the Six Sentence Cafe & Bistro and asked me why I was leaving so soon, the tall, thin man opened that door and told me to follow him to the roof where we would meet the red-headed writer, Aurelia, Ms Pie and maybe even Brigid and Felreil, Mimi, Cai and – who knows? – many others.
I asked the voice if he knew the way to the roof in case the tall, thin man went too fast for me to keep up and he said, Of course.
As I left Room 215 I could tell that the voice was nearby by such comments as Nice weather we’re having or Hope the sun comes out real soon or Do you think we will have a thunder storm tomorrow? At the end of the hallway past the steel door propped open with milk cases I climbed the sketchy stairs until the voice complained of exhaustion and told me to stop and rest for a moment or two. When I stopped so he could catch his breath, I asked him if there was something he wanted to tell me back in Room 215.
While he spoke I listened and then we continued our climb to the roof with no further need for words to be said.

Denise offers the prompt word “thunder” to be used in this week’s Six Sentence Stories.

very nicely done, Frank

(it’s funny how, even though meta, your ‘voice’ seems to convey a certain… groundedness)
(which having just returned from Chris’s Six may be a most welcome attribute for a ‘character’ in a ‘story’ lol)

It sounds like we are headed back to Room 215. It might give the voice a chance to introduce himself. Of course, we might go on a detour first. Blessings, Clark!

we might go on a detour first
Well, this is the Six Sentence Cafe & Bistro lol
looking forward to it, and, of course, there are an undetermined number of floors between the roof and the Cafe (reliable sources places it at 5 to 7 floor) that are unexplored.
the only other floor not yet ‘known’ is the cellar (which has a loading dock)… that is, if’n you’re in a Dante-state of mind

I thought the cafe was in the cellar, but maybe the steps were going up rather than down. Hmm. I wonder what is in the basement.

The entrance (to the Café) is, indeed three granite steps down from the sidewalk. (the door is of heavy oak construction, painted a deep, almost carnelian, red and the hardware is black wrought iron. There might be a small window, high on the door (like sliding window lookout, but it’s never been specifically described. Feel free on your next occasion to use the door to further the description)
No, the Café is lets call it semi below grade.
Now the cellar!! lol Totally deliberate choice of word…. not basement, totally not lower level, …the cellar. of a former mill. at various time the machinery was powered by massive steal engines, then diesel. Not an inviting place but, like many establishments a place to store supplies and such.
hopefully your past might include time spent in: a) jewelry factory 2) elastic yarn mill 3) below-deck engine room of a trawler or… any school built before 1950 (usually brick exterior walls massive boiler for the heating system, pipes wrapped with asbestos insulation
sorry! I hope you have not had to experience above location anywhere but in fiction

I do remember old schools built before 1950. The basement was delightfully spooky and a good location for stories.

I’m enjoying the pace of your Café Sixes, Frank. It allows your secondary character, “the voice” the “space’ to establish itself.

I hope the voice knows what to do next and his way around the place and he doesn’t just vanish on me even though he is invisible already. Blessings, Denise!

I don’t know where 215 came from. I am just continuing someone else’s tale. I thought the cafe was on the basement level, but it is a fantasy world. Blessings and thank you, Jim!

😸 But what did the voice tell you?! You drew me in, calmed me down, and then left me hanging! Eeek! Next week?

I was wondering what it was myself. Next week I’ll have the voice actually provide some advice (if the advice makes sense). I am glad that tale left you with suspense. Blessings, Liz!

I know I must be jumping into it mid-story but I’m fascinated and ready for more to be divulged! Who might this invisible entity be and what did he say through his exhaustion?! 🙂

His exhaustion was likely more to humor me. I view him as the Holy Spirit. I plan to introduce an unholy voice later if this set of tales continues. Blessings, Dora!
