Rescue—Ovi Poetry Challenge

It takes no brains to take offense
since wicked stuff makes little sense.
His rescue comes through penitence.
Call on the Lord and live.

Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Change—Ovi Poetry Challenge

The music took me from my head
down through my heart as Spirit led
me to the Words that I once read
that God is known through love.

Oh, may I make whatever change,
reject all fires that You find strange,
may thoughts unworthy rearrange.
I hunger for Your love.

1 John 4:7-8
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Leviticus 10:1
And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not.

Forgiveness—Ovi Poetry Challenge

The easy way is not the way
that God would breathe through me today.
Those wicked ones so led astray—
may we forgive them all.

Luke 23:33-34
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Challenge—Ovi Poetry Challenge

My mind’s been twisted in a knot.
Some argue that I haven’t got
a mind to twist and there’s a lot
of screws I’ve lost somewhere.

Some bricks are missing from the load
I carry since they’re hard to hold,
but I’ll still take the narrow road
that leads from here to there.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV)
13 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Christmas Poem

Waters rush within,
living rivers flow—
wise men follow star—
God is here not far,
nearer than we know.

______

Matthew 2:1-2
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

John 7:38
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

New Heart—Ovi Poetry Challenge

The Baby sleeps. The stars shine high
upon the earth through darkened sky.
The virgin hums a lullaby.
The Lord has finally come.

As sacrifice He died then rose.
Let’s follow Him, be one of those
who lives the love that Jesus shows
and offers to us all.

The Spirit now makes new the heart.
Those fruitless thoughts that demons start
will stop. We have been set apart
for Him forever more.

Celebration—Ovi Poetry Challenge

Since He’s the Lord you’re listening to
and not some demon fooling you,
forget what others say or do.
He is the only one.

They’ll question this and argue that.
It’s you, of course, they’re aiming at.
Your mind is not their new doormat.
Just celebrate the Lord.

Survival—Ovi Poetry Challenge

The Lord protects you. Have no fear.
His voice is faithful, true and clear.
His voice is all you need to hear
while walking by His side.

Be healed from every worry, woe.
Where Jesus leads there we will go.
When troubles think they’re winning know
His Spirit’s deep inside.

Rest—Ovi Poetry Challenge

Six days were all creation took
as Moses noted in his book
and then God rested. Stop and look
and see what He has done!

Who would have thought of it at all?
A universe! Then came the fall.
We messed things up, but do recall
He came and rescued us.

Song—Ovi Poetry Challenge

We used to sing a simple song
and both of us would sing along.
Though it was soft with lyrics strong
we sing that song no more.

Though other songs have come and gone
the songs that I still linger on
are soft and simple, deeply drawn
from one song long ago.

I wrote this poem in the Ovi form after listening last Friday evening to Jimmy Webb‘s song MacArthur Park sung by Richard Harris before I knew this week’s inspiration word. I am thankful for all the songs.
