Because our species pair-bonds I think there is some chemical change involving pleasure encouraging us to choose to stay and pain encouraging us to stay that occurs. It doesn’t force us to do either, but it tries to motivate us to preserve the bond.

This reminds me of how corny my first kiss was with my girlfriend. We were both so nervous. She was dropping me off at my house after a date, we were sitting in her car. I told her to close her eyes and count to ten. I kissed her as soon as she closed her eyes.
