With empathy let’s build a way
For walls to act like doors.
The Sun receives this new-born day.
Though darkness felt it had to stay,
It left. It left us more.
Linked to dVerse Meeting the Bar where Grace is hosting on the theme of the Quintain or the Quintet. I am also linking to Debbie Roth’s Forgiving Fridays.

For walls to act like doors – Love the message of empathy and sun’s bright light of hope.

I think empathy has dwindled for a long time… may it become better in years to come. Happy Thanksgiving.

Inspiring and skillfully written. I like the idea of creative empathy as a tie-in to our overall creative morality.

This is a wonderful poem. I love the idea of walls becoming doors, letting in rather than shutting out.
Have a blessed day.

The period in the last line is crucial! Well done, Frank!

I am glad you liked that period to break up the line and allow “It left” to be repeated. Thank you!

Oh Frank, I am so touched. What I am particularly inspired by is how empathy can help us forgive and turn walls into doors and see the fullness and beauty of who we all truly are. ❤ Funny that you wrote about empathy – both Ali Grimshaw (another contributor for #ForgivingFridays) and I also wrote about this!!
Have a wonderful weekend, Frank. Happy happy and happy again Thanksgiving to you. ❤ I’ll share your post shortly. Blessings, Debbie

Thank you, Debbie, and I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving last Thursday. Empathy and patience are ways I relate to forgiveness. Those ideas just seem to appear.

Your words are both clever and meaningful – for walls to act like doors and “it left. It left us more.” You even have empathy for darkness that felt it had to stay. The photo works well, too. There are doors in that wall of trees though they are not obvious.

Fascinating idea of the darkness having to feel “it had to stay” and “leaving us more” despite the sunrise. As if it has that empathy you speak of to begin with. Love the imagery and personification. Beautiful.
