May the thought
My words have brought
Be pure
Like morning air.
It’s always you
I’m talking to
No matter who
Is there.
Linked to dVerse Meeting the Bar where Amaya is hosting asking us to use ‘apostrophe’ in a poem. She describes it as “simply an address to someone not present or to an abstract concept”.

That’s a beautiful prayer Frank! I just happened to see your email. Beautiful!!

The simplicity speaks volumes as the “you” can be read on different layers. And you managed to make a general intercession in the first stanza and then switch to a more personal address in the second. Well done, Frank.

Thank you, Amaya! I left who the “you” was ambiguous.

I could easily place myself within this, Frank, having conversations with my father, now gone a quarter-century.

A beautiful prayer. It’s nice to talk to God; it’s even better when he listens and answers.

The you here is a wonderful longing… and it’s true that there is almost always a you that is part of self.
