Six Sentence Story: Jeremy’s Demon Infestation Problem

When Jeremy entered his home the demons scrambled. They looked like those fat cockroaches that ran about when he turned on the light. He stepped on some squishing them nicely, but the more he squished the more they kept coming.

He’d admit that when they first arrived they looked cute and he enjoyed playing with them, but he never thought they would overrun the place like a huge forest fire starting from a careless camp site.

What was poor Jeremy to do?

After fits of indecision because those critters still looked so cute, he finally realized that if he didn’t clean house from top to bottom inside and out they would completely take over.

Denise offers the prompt word “fire” to be used in this week’s Six Sentence Stories.

  3. Principalities and Powers and Rulers…
    Things that we admire and draw us to them.

    1. They seem like opposites, but that’s what makes them insidious. They’re bold and brash which is at least not wishy washy and they promise to change things radically. It’s why we have an affinity for automatic weapons in the hands of our Police on TV. They eliminate the bad guys with a minimum of red tape. I call it 5-0 syndrome. SO many deviations from truth, justice and the American Way. Most of the evidence collected would be inadmissible! Then they show up at your doorstep and you think, “Wait, I’m a good guy!”
    2. They tell you what you want to hear. They’re not radical. It’s just in fun. But when you shine the light of truth on them, they scatter. “It’s just a little thing…no one would notice it.” “It’s not like we do this every night…” “Who knows whether it’s AI or real anyway?”
    3. They’re little white lies. Are there little black lies? Little plaid lies? Lies are spoken, and lies are omitted, but they’re still lies.

    When you have people in power whom nobody knows is in power, they’re like those little whispers, but there’s steel in their voices and BIG consequences.

    When you have people in power who flaunt the laws and sensibilities of their society, we, as members of the society cannot just ignore them. It’s not someone else’s job; it’s ours.

    1. Very good point about little, white lies. Little or big, black, white or plaid, they are still lies.

      It is best to keep shining the light of truth on them.

  9. Great modern parable Frank – Illusion of harmlessness – Evil, bad habits, or toxic behaviours rarely present themselves as monstrous at first. They often arrive looking innocent, making them easy to welcome into one’s life then very hard to get rid of 🙌
