Six Sentence Story: From Death To Life

When Aurelia returned to the Six Sentence Cafe & Bistro she joined the red-headed writer at a booth and then they wandered to wherever with the Bartender. With the men and women at separate locations the men could have a serious conversation (and perhaps even the women as well, but I can’t imagine what they might be talking about even though I could hear them doing a lot of it).

On the male side of the room Lou and I, thanks to prodding by the tall, thin man, were fast becoming good friends with Lou even inviting us to go with him to his Bottom of the Sea Strip Club and Lounge, but I told Lou that I’d rather read a paper on what amino acids and nucleobases were found on the asteroid Bennu than go to a strip club. To elaborate – although I don’t think it helped – I said, Long ago when I was young and stupid I found myself lying on the floor while a woman having only words at her disposal frantically commanded life back into my motionless body and a voice advised me not to try to regain control, but merely trust that I would according to her words even though I witlessly ingested the drugs she wishes now she never brought.

How long has that voice been watching over you? Lou asked.

Now that that incident slipped back into my memory it must have been – forever.

Cheer—Ovi Poetry Challenge

When tears that let you see arrive
you’ll feel at last you’ve come alive.
You’ll hear Him tell you softly, “I’ve
been with you all this time.”

Do That To Me—Six Sentence Story

Tim didn’t know the minister, Daniel, nor most of the other people at the small church gathering in his neighbor’s home. He was surprised when a young woman collapsed to her knees in tears and then lay on the floor as Daniel spoke words of blessing over her.

When Daniel asked Tim to tell them how he first met Jesus, he wasn’t sure how that happened, but knowing it must have, he stood, held Daniel’s hands and began telling his story, a type of incoherent, shaky narrative that went from repentance to repentance to finally moving next door to them. While speaking he thought to himself that he so wished his testimony were better.

The next thing Tim knew he was looking up at Daniel apparently from having fallen over backwards to the floor caught on the way down by a man standing behind him, just in case.

An older woman who had attended many of these meetings rushed to Daniel saying Do that to me! even though, or maybe, because, both she and Daniel knew he wasn’t the One who made Tim fall like that.

Praise and Thanksgiving—Ovi Poetry Challenge

Defeated demons walk about.
Resist them. They have no way out.
We live in joy, give thanks and shout:
All praise goes to the Lord.

1 Peter 5:8-9 NKJV8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

Expectations—Ovi Poetry Challenge

Offended? But that doesn’t count.
I won’t expect what can’t amount
to anything. We want His fount,
His well of living water.

John 4:10-14 KJV
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
