Mindful In My Hand

Notebook in My Hand

This tiny notebook that is in my hand
Contains this poem written here for you.
It won’t take long. I’ll tire of it, too,
But when it’s done, we’ll put it all away
And watch the sun explore another day.

Linked to dVerse Poetics. Sarah is hosting with the theme of mindfully writing about something in one’s hand.

    1. I agree, the playful admission of forgetting about it makes this poem. So often thought of “the most serious” of creative pursuits, I like to read poems which almost poke fun at themselves and show self-awareness. Nice work 🙂

  1. Nice to see longhand and the seeds of a poem. My first draft is always in longhand (no longer taught in school). Hemingway wrote everything in longhand; a fine poetic tradition

  2. a notebook inspired me today too. i like that you write it down, I capture thoughts the same way, they seem more concrete on paper, like the short poem form your reflection Frank, giving a balance between creativity and enjoying life before it passes us by

  3. Creating a poem is an intimate exchange between the mysterious specter of the human mind and the physical materialization through the written word. What better way to celebrate that intimacy than though connecting the mind and the material in one’s own hand. PS – I rather enjoyed the whimsy, also.

  4. Oh yes! I have about 6 notebooks with my scribbles, poem ideas, first “editions” of poems, rewrites etc. Sometimes I go through them and highlight ideas that I’ll go back to. I suspect that one day they will all go in the garbage…but for today, they are treasured by me because I can go back and see what my thoughts were years ago!

    1. If I don’t get what I’ve written transcribed to the computer shortly after writing it, I become unable to read my own writing. But sometimes all I need is the hint of it from the notebook. Thank you, Lillian!
