I awoke in a cold room, hunched on the floor beside a black and empty grate, the clock striking three, and the siren howling overhead.
C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce
Waking from a winter’s dream Who was speaking to me then? Angels, bright, while demons slip Me thoughts on which they hope I’ll trip, Have guarded me again.
Linked to dVerse Poetics. Mish is hosting with the theme of quoting the last line of a book of our choice and writing a poem on it.

This reminded me of the Screwtape Letters , as well.

Like Lincoln’s “angels of our better nature”, angels and spirit guides work overtime keeping us out of harm’s way.

I am grateful for my spirit guides and listening to my intuition has taken many years of practice. I so enjoy your photography it just takes me right there and I find myself in the tall grass.

Bless be! One can see the light in the wake of an angel’s presence in one’s dreams. I believe so Frank!

Apparitions Do Come in Life’s Darkest
Winter Moments my Mother with All Her Despair
early in her Marriage not sure if she would be able to
make it was visited by a Bearded Man With Piercing Green
Eyes surrounding the Room in Light with the Comfort that all
would turn out fine..
what a gift
it made
the difference to her..
i wanted a visit like that too..
but mine was different for when i fell
deepest in Dark not having any idea if i would
make it so vivid a waking Dream of a Fiery Red Headed
Woman in a White Robe with Piercing Green eyes of Strength
as that was what i needed then.. floating above me a once in a lifetime
apparition a gift in deed
both experiences..
true i had the
Potential
for that
connection too..
i suppose i just got
a Female Version of ‘Jesus’ instead..:)

Great the way “slip” can work with more than one meaning.

I really like this.
The placement of “slip” at the end of the line suggests two meanings upon a close reading of the poem:
demons slipping you thoughts (on which they hope you’ll trip) +
demons slipping on their own misguided deeds, as if the angels left behind a banana peel
Thanks to the angels who are watching over you, it seems its the demons themselves who are tripping.
Nice poem.
