Hand of God

Our partying about the hall
was stopped by writing on the wall.
That awful hand mysteriously
wrote words we didn’t care to see.
Daniel told our heads of state—
The kingdom’s over; it’s too late.

A version of this previously appeared in Poet’s Corner.

If you’ve ever wondered where the phrase “writing on the wall” comes from, see Daniel 5.

  1. I’m just thinking of the dorm parties and the shock of the participants when writing shows up on the walls. Yeah, oops! Wish it would happen to the heads of state in all the countries now.
    Love your picture too!

  2. In their pride, they could not see the depth of their sin, using the consecrated vessels of God’s house for their debauchery. They needed Daniel’s interpretation. “Too late.”
