Dale challenges us to select our best photos of the past year for this week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge.
The following photos stood out in my memory.
Two trees in autumn fill the first picture with colorful leaves. The texture of the ancient pavement impressed me in the second one taken in Jerusalem. The third was a sunrise over the sea of Galilee in Tiberias, Israel.

I was going to get some ice cubes out of the refrigerator when I thought I’ve been through plenty of freezing weather before. Thankfully it always warmed up.
Here are two scenes of freezing weather from northeastern Illinois.

Fortunately we put the tree up yesterday in time for me to take some photos of it for this prompt.
The tree is artificial and enough lights worked to not need to buy any more.

Dale offers the theme “out of the way places” for this week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge.
These are photos I took of the Beit Shean ruins last September. For me they are an out of the way place, but they may be common for tour guides in northeastern Israel.
The first two are sidewalk tiles that were uncovered along Palladius Street. The last photo is an overview of the ruins to show where the tiles were found. In the distance is Mount Gilboa where Saul’s sons were killed by the Philistines and Saul himself died. Their bodies were hung on the walls of Beit Shean until removed, burned and buried in Jabesh (1 Samuel 31).

After going through the photos I found three from one spot taken a few weeks ago. We were on the Haigler Loop around Lake Haigler at Anne Springs Close Greenway. It was the best day for the fall colors that we saw.
I just took photos turning slightly from the left to the right.

The stones help us to remember.
May His law be written on all our hearts (Hebrews 8) so there will be no cause for war.
Dale offers the prompt “art for art’s sake” for this week’s Cosmic Photo Challenge.
Hopefully these fit the prompt. There was functional art involved in the construction of these pavements. Someone decided how to place the tiles in one way rather than another and how to position the boulders and gravel.
I pretended to caption the photos as if they were abstract paintings in a museum painted by an artist whose name I can no longer remember.

I wonder if the generated PGF TikZ graphics are spooky. I call them galaxies.
They’re probably not spooky enough, so I’ve included a photo of a spider. It looks like a face with black eyes and an evil smile.
Overcast evenings sometimes evoke a spooky sensation. So I’ve included one of them as well.

I like how the sun splashes color at the beginning of and throughout the day.

These are some of my favorite images of autumn color.
They were taken in northeastern Illinois.
I no longer live there, but the memories remain. As the season progresses in South Carolina the trees should change color here as well.
