Colorful when given light Shadows turn away Waking bravely from the night Colorful when given light Proof beyond the sense of sight Like a rainbow’s sway Colorful when given light Shadows turn away
Linked to dVerse Poetics where Linda Lee Lyberg is hosting with the theme of “to be a flower”. I picked poppies at least that is what I think those brightly colored flowers are in the photos. The form of the poem is intended to be close to a triolet.

Light is everything here.

Great use of repetition here, Frank. Poppies carry their own baggage. Light and shade.

Blood poppies like blood diamonds have tragic stories to tell. I always think of that scene in the WIZARD OF OZ when the gang is knocked out by the strong scent.

Yes, they are in the Wizard of Oz. I do remember that scene but I did not know what knocked them out. Thank you, Glenn!

Poppies were my mother’s favourite flower, Frank. I love to see poppies brightening up the roadsides and fields. You enhanced the idea of light with the repetition of ‘Shadows turn away’.

They are beautiful especially when planted so close together as was done in this garden. Thank you, Kim!

‘Shadows turn away’ evokes sadness, but the recurring ‘light’ theme induces cheer.

Nice. Does the form have a name? (I’m collecting forms because I always think I’ll do a 30-day cycle with a new form every day. This will definitely for sure happen at some point.)

Thank you, Xan! The form is a triolet. On February 27th I am planning a prompt on dVerse MTB using that form unless something comes up.

A company called Shropshire Petals grew poppies on the heath by my parents’ farm last year. The whole heath was a riot of colour, very similar to your photo. It was beautiful.
A thought provoking poem.
