A devil pointed out some sin That happened long ago. I knew that justice ought to win. A devil pointed out some sin, But mercy found a back way in So gratitude could grow. A devil pointed out some sin That happened long ago.

This seems like it could be talking about the IL mayor that you-know-who just commuted his sentence? Nice photo of the egret/heron and a very interesting tree picture.

You’re welcome. I just happened to catch a story on it on NPR the other day in the car.

The rhythm and the language reminds me of folk songs and tales told by campfires.
I really dig it.

That tree is amazing–cool photo, Frank. I like your triolet and when I wrote mine years ago when Samuel did the prompt, I think I didn’t do the meter thing either. It confuses me! But I think in yours, mercy and gratitude win over the devil always.

I just finished reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis and this poem reminded me of this book.

Yes, I recently read The Screwtape Letters as well. I was thinking of those devils (Screwtape and Wormwood) when writing this. Thank you, Robbie!

That is such a coincidence, Frank. I liked Screwtape proposed a toast best.

Lewis has another tale, The Great Divorce, about ghosts in hell visiting heaven and given a chance to stay if they want to. No devils in that one, but similar kind of characters.

I didn’t know about that one, Frank. Thank you, I’ll be getting that one for sure.

WoW! That photo says it all, reminds me of how the evil one gets hold of us; crying for mercy to shake it off. No sin is greater than the Mercy of God.

That tree was unusual. I don’t think anyone noticed the vine growing there. Thank you, Danik!

Awesome shot. But I am curious, why pair this picture with the poem?

No good reason. They seemed to fit at the time, but in retrospect sometimes they don’t. Thank you, Terre!
