Winter’s Breath

Winter turns the spirit out.
Leaves go red and fall.
Snowy silence sits about.
I wonder at it all,
But know the proof comes in the spring
When leaves and flowers bloom
When birds again have warmth to sing
And outside’s like a room.

Winter’s Breathing Turns the Trees

From Night to Day

As Philip watched the evening shine
With tiny stars to pierce the dark,
He felt a cooling calm and peace
Then dread turned on his mind to mark
With fear that all about his head
Were coffin lids to seal the dead.

Then Philip saw how dawn was cast,
How darkness bowed and night flew past.

The Onset of Autumn

The heat says summer still is here
But autumn’s on its way.
The trend will change and when it does
I won’t know why it does because
I thought the trend would stay.
