Technology: Chisel

Brad knew he didn’t have the proper tools to do the job right, but he rarely did. The door and opener cost under $50. He’d reuse the old hinges.

He did have to buy a chisel. They told him he couldn’t return it when he was done. He could live with that.

After sort of measuring everything, he realized it wasn’t as easy as he thought to carve out where the hinges should go.

Eventually in spite of everything he hung the door.

Happy wife happy life: she was happy. For the most part the new door even closed.

Other Worldly

I move my black mouse and click. I know I should be doing other things.

“Like what?” That silent voice inside me asks.

Well, like watching this orange sunset or bothering that white bird sitting for no good reason on the railing or contemplating the other worldly mysteries of this grand universe.

Knowing I have no clue, I hear. “Really, like what?”

So I let my inner squeaky wheel, my imaginary “friend”, guide me downward into the depths of another suspicious, weedy, mosquito-loving rabbit hole I have no business exploring. But what else, really, do I have to do?

Hints of Spring

When I can’t get off my butt, there’s nothing like a kick to do the trick.

I’m beginning to value pain. To reinforce that value I think of it as the whispering of angels calling me to pay attention. Of course, I could just as well think of it as a kick in the butt, but this is supposed to be a poem, and there is more to reality than meets the eye.

This is also supposed to be about spring, but all I hear about is winter. So. More snow? Or is it time for winter to get off its butt and go?

WE START AGAIN

Changing Clouds

I meet a crowded, free-board bus
Fantasizing all of us
As travelers taken by the hand
Unaware of where we’ll land.

Does no death bring me to my knees
Except my own? Delusion sees,
Sipping clouds that wander by,
Wonder neither how nor why.

Wavy Clouds

Sublimely Structural

Not the branch nor the tree
Dancing leaves majestically
Do their small but useful part
To green the ground with mystery.

The wind may kiss us on the fly.
We catch caresses from the sky.
Sublimely structural - stay low
To aim our treasures high.

Toys

We had few toys. The mud pies that we made
We’d sell for mud-pie cash or try to trade
For treasures that would fortify wild dreams
That didn’t need much more than that we played.

Linked to K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge where the theme is “toys”. The The photo below is a hiking trail through a golf course which may be a kind of toy. I don’t golf, but I do walk this trail. The featured photo are the eyes of a beautiful troll we bought many years ago made by 5 Arts Studio in Cosby, TN.

Sharpest, Deepest Sleep

Beneath soft covers steeped in dreams
Sleep reveals golden schemes
Left from sharper, warmer day
When calmer night with moonlight beams.

Oceans deepen. High waves spray.
Bounce the ball as children play.
Nothing need be as it seems.
No one turns their own away.

Linked to dVerse Poetry Forms – the Rubaiyat. I like short tetrameter lines and how the AABA rhyme scheme allows the quatrains to be interconnected based on sound.

In a Blur

I’d rather flow in given grace
Than try to race or go away.
If things get blurry, I don’t care.
Come, take me where you will today.

Linked to K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge with the theme “in a blur”. By focusing on the foreground that I normally don’t pay attention to, I blurred the background that I do,
