Sharpest, Deepest Sleep

Beneath soft covers steeped in dreams
Sleep reveals golden schemes
Left from sharper, warmer day
When calmer night with moonlight beams.

Oceans deepen. High waves spray.
Bounce the ball as children play.
Nothing need be as it seems.
No one turns their own away.

Linked to K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge with theme “sharpest image”. Also linked to dVerse Quadrille. Mish is hosting with the word “steep”.

Linked to dVerse Poetry Forms – the Rubaiyat. I like short tetrameter lines and how the AABA rhyme scheme allows the quatrains to be interconnected based on sound.

Tones and Textures

The tone of words one now cannot erase,
The texture of an isolated place,
The thoughts of cheer one thought one had before
Turn into thoughts of prison evermore.

Rejoice. That promise heard about midnight
Was not a dream but dawning of new light.

Linked to K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge with theme of “unusual tones and textures”. Also linked to dVerse Quadrille where De Jackson (WimzyGizmo) is hosting with the word “cheer”.

From Dreams to Reality

I wink and then it all goes real.
The former dreams now make me feel
Like everything was there to heal.

I fantasize a pleasant way
To whisper happiness to you.
I send you dreams of every day
So wilder daydreams may come true.

Linked to K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge with the theme “From Dreams to Reality”. I am also linking this to dVerse Quadrille. De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) is hosting with the theme word “wink”.

Silhouette

Early morning freshens air.
Trees appear from dark of night.
As I rise the chilly skies
Help me smile with welcomed light.

Evening consummates all this,
Adds some darkness to the day.
Silhouettes are what I get
As I smile to find my way.

Linked to K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge with the theme of “shadows, shapes and silhouettes”. It is also linked to dVerse Quadrille. Kim from Writing in North Norfolk is hosting with the word “early”.

Yuck

Yuck is such a yucky word.
It closes every opened door.
It claims whatever’s true’s absurd
Demanding always something more.

Demanding something nicer, too,
Nicer than this yucky place.
Demands. Demands. What can one do
Stumbling over old and new,
Stumbling over smiling grace?

Earth

From mushrooms up to maple trees
The Earth is home to all of these.
There’s so much that I cannot see
That’s tucked away mysteriously.

Mysteriously it’s come to be
From somewhere, from the wild wet sea.
It’s even home for you and me.

Box

The box presents its mystery—
We open hoping we may see
What’s hidden, true or otherwise,
Disguised by sides of secrecy.

And so

Disguised by sides of secrecy.
What’s hidden, true or otherwise,
We open hoping we may see—
The box presents its mystery.

Text: Linked to dVerse Quadrille hosted by De Jackson (WhimsyGizmo) with the prompt word “Box”. The poem is a kind of “reverse” poem. Some of its lines, but not necessarily all of them, are repeated in reverse order. I will be featuring this form on Thursday at dVerse.

Puzzle

The puzzle I am working on
Likely won’t get done.
Too many pieces might be lost–
I find another one!

My puzzles rest when I’m asleep.
The day has lost its light.
Like a child may angels keep
Me safe through day or night.

Itch

The itch grinned just a scratch away
Like monsters edging up my skin
Who wanted in perhaps to play
Perhaps to lead my mind astray
And if I let the itch proceed
What would it need to turn today
Into a dVerse birthday wish?

Text: Linked to dVerse Quadrille where Grace is hosting and we are celebrating dVerse’s seventh anniversary. The quadrille word is “itch”. The poem is also a septet, a seven-line poem on any topic, which I will be featuring on Thursday to keep the party going.

Cycle

I cycle on and miss the trees.
They laugh more mindfully than me.
It’s you I’m on this bike to see.

With any end the sun may bring
There will be some old song to sing
And some to dip us fresh in spring.
