The Tree Planter on the Georgia Crew

He swings. The hoedad opens up the ground.
He sets the seedling, steps, and moves around.

For every bend a nickel he will earn.
He counts by thousands and without concern.

His caffeinated soda’s cheap and sweet
With peanut butter sandwiches to eat.

At night he camps with others like him who
Will spend four months together on this crew.

He works alone but some come there with spouses
While others waste their time and break up houses.

He’d not expect to find some girl who’d stay
And some feel life’s less lonely lived that way.

Waiting for Just a Whisper

Quietly awaiting word
Of what I need to do.
I hope I’ll figure out it when
Some whisper does come through.

I hope that something does come through
So I won’t feel alone
But even if some nothing comes,
This silence I’ll still own.

How Humor Can Make Things Better Or Worse

Humor feeds those parts of man
That hope sweet dreams come true
And woman feels she finally can
Do what she wants to do.

Anyone is happy when
Laughter lightens air.
Giggles entertain us then
And we no longer care.

This poem is a simple one.
It rhymes and sounds like verse.
I hope that now you know it’s done
It don’t make matters worse.

Teased By My Cloudy Mind

Fluffy cloud, relax the sky.
You deepen its pure blue,
But I’m not looking high somewhere.
My mind runs cloudy, too.

My mind desires a faster way
To calm its anxious fight:
“Relax. Sit tall. Observe it all.”
But I am teased by light.

The Dragon’s Gold

I

Trying to explain why the damsel got caught by the dragon

Most dragons like sitting on gold
While the knight wants a damsel to hold,
But the damsel prefers
Those knights richer than hers
Or that dragon both well-off and old.

II

The problem with dragon gold is both knights and damsels want it

A dragon sits deep in his cave.
He has gold since he knows how to save.
There’s a damsel distressed
By her shiny knight pest
Sneaking in since gold makes fools brave.

III

The dragon has sold all his gold

The dragon said, “Gold’s gonna drop.”
So he sold when gold hit a new top
And the damsel moaned, “Why?”
You could hear the knight cry,
But those bulls couldn’t make that bear stop.

Substantiating the Shadow

If that’s your shadow in my cave,
I wonder where are you?
Some caves are darker than the night.
Minds get darker, too.

My mind rehearses uselessly
The past, since now you’ve gone.
Those shadows flicker right and left
While day keeps moving on.

Open Your Eyes Even If They Are Already Open

Let gravity do what it does.
Walk the body tall.
Let the eyes explore what’s real.
They want to see it all.

I’ll levitate when I am dead.
My eyes are grateful when
I look about with opened eyes
And then I look again.
