open mind…deeper mysteries
Linked to Linda G. Hill’s One-Liner Wednesday.
Our minds rationalize our hearts’ desires.

I sometimes think I change my mind
To fit prevailing wind.
It only matters that I find
Amidst these changes I was kind.
If not, well, then I’ve sinned.

Photo: “Morning Rays of Light” that I am linking to Frank Jansen’s Tuesday Photo Challenge since this sunrise looks “exotic” to me which is the theme this week.
News: Yesterday I joined a local poetry group, Poets and Patrons. They host annual poetry contests and the Helen Schaible International Shakespearean Petrarchan Sonnet Contest.
The mundane is in the mind of the beholder.

This funk I feel will heal somehow.
The textures of my mind are strange,
But they will change and even now
I feel those textures rearrange.
I’d rather think the world’s sublime
Than whine about each little thing.
I’d rather waste my time with rhyme
Than worry that I cannot sing.

The river overflowed the trails.
The brown cattails
And lilies there
And birds don’t care.
My disappointment flickers though.
I’ll let it go
Eventually.
There’s much to see.
When blocked from going on my walk,
The chatter-talk
I want to mind
Can rest, unwind.
Linked to dVerse Quadrille celebrating its 6th Anniversary and hosted by Grace with prompt word “flicker”.
Photo “Exterior of the Trail” by the author linked to K’lee and Dale‘s Cosmic Photo Challenge with theme “exterior”. I am on the outside or exterior of the Des Plaines River Trail at Half Day Forest Preserve. High water from the rains a couple days ago overflowed the river onto the trails although that overflowing is not evident in this picture. The collage below contains scenes in Half Day Forest Preserve that I would have missed if the trails were usable. They are also part of the “exterior” of these trails.
Let us climb these well worn stairs,
Light above and peace throughout.
Heart tells mind, “Don’t worry here.
Love will show us all about.”

I am also linking this to Jill Lyman’s July Challenge. Consider this an eight line poem of which I’ve written only the first four lines.
I’m exploring medieval lyrics. I think the above might be called “trova romantica” with form and style related to the troubadours. I’m trying to use the Portuguese Redondilha maior meter, a seven syllable line with the last syllable accented, but I might be missing something.
The Spring issue (Vol 97, No 2) of The Lyric Magazine, “the oldest magazine in North America devoted to traditional poetry”, arrived in the mail. It contains my poem, “Chutes and Ladders”. I am grateful to the editor, Jean Mellichamp Milliken, for selecting it.
Since my mind isn’t frightfully clear,
And I listen to less than I hear,
And this limerick’s got
Nary reason nor plot,
If I post it will it disappear?
Linked to dVerse where I am hosting today and the prompt is to write a limerick.
Photo: “I Wish My Mind Were Clear Like That” by the author
Hypnotize me as you will.
My mind is out of reach
Like water leaves a lake until
It runs upon some beach.
It wants that sand on solid land.
It’s carried back from shore
To circle and not understand
Why it does not need more.

Fluffy cloud, relax the sky.
You deepen its pure blue,
But I’m not looking high somewhere.
My mind runs cloudy, too.
My mind desires a faster way
To calm its anxious fight:
“Relax. Sit tall. Observe it all.”
But I am teased by light.
Written for dVerse Quadrille #18 posted by Kim with the challenge word being “cloud”.
